Course Overview
The goal of this summit is to share best practices, foster collaboration, and provide a forum for peer-to-peer interaction among Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in clinical practice who are actively engaged in the care of oncology patients. This summit will provide APP learners a broad scope of the latest developments and important current concepts in the multidisciplinary treatment of oncology patients. Additionally, the summit offers an intimate learning environment to facilitate interaction between attendees and faculty so that clinicians can discuss practical patient management issues and then apply their learning once they return to practice.

Intended Learners
Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Oncology Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of oncology patients.

Bone Marrow Biopsy and Aspiration: A Hands-on Simulation Workshop 

**Pre-Registration & Additional Fee of $30 Required to Participate in this Session. Limit 12 learners.**

Session Overview
During this hands-on educational activity, learners will review the steps for preparing patients for a bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedure. They will also become familiar with the equipment required for performing the procedure. Using simulation models, learners will practice performing a bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedure.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the anatomy of the posterior iliac crest and options for positioning the patient for a bone marrow aspiration or core biopsy

  2. Determine the indications and contraindication for bone marrow aspiration or core biopsy

  3. Describe how to anesthetize skin, subcutaneous tissue and periosteum in advance of a bone marrow aspiration or core biopsy

  4. Illustrate the proper technique for performing manual and powered bone marrow aspiration and core biopsy via simulation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation through the joint providership of the Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation and Horizon CME.

The Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Upon completion, NPs and RNs will be awarded up to 13 contact hours.
